This morning I read about a wonderful new way to help children learn. At least that is what I was supposed to think.
It seems that a group of retired teachers have rediscovered that some children learn best when they can move in class and feel happy about learning. This system – called KEEN (for kinesthetic, endorphins, experiential, narrative)- probably does work well for some children. Why shouldn’t it work? Children are allowed to move – always a good way to stimulate brain cells, when children are moving then they create endorphins and automatically feel better, when children feel better about learning they learn more. Nothing new here.
I am not sure about the narrative bit – but I do know that stories are a good way to help children learn.
So, if your school teachers take this training (and this is what this group does, trains teachers to do this stuff) your child might benefit. But I am not sure that he or she would benefit as much as if the cost of this training was spent on badly needed edeucational resources.
Hey ho – education must be in a bad way if we have to resort to this. Time for you to take the power you need to help your child.
