Doesn’t every parent want a caring, responsible and healthy child? Well, The Search Institute of Practical Research Benefiting Children and Youth has identified a list of building blocks that make sure this happens.

Here is their list of 8 things that make this happen – more detail later.

1. Support – from parents and other adults
2. Empowerment – children feel safe and valued
3. Boundaries and expectations – clear rules and expectations
4. Constructive use of time – parents help children to develop their unique talents
5. Commitment to learning – parents support their child’s education
6. Positive values – parents model these for their children
7. Social Competencies – Children are helped to become part of society
8. Positive Identity – children feel good about themselves

That is quite a list! But if you break each item down into simple steps (which I will do for you) it becomes much easier to accomplish.

And the rewards are fantastic!
