You have probably heard of preferred learning styles, and how everyone has their own, unique mix of styles that combine to create the special way they learn best. I expect that you know of visual, verbal and kinesthetic learners but do you know about the other ways people learn?
Gardiner discovered 8 different forms of intelligence that relate to 8 different learning styles.
* Visual learning style – you learn best by seeing
* Verbal learning style – you learn best by talking. listening and reading
* Kinesthetic learning style- you learn best when you are moving
* Intrapersonal learning style – you learn best by being on your own and working things out
* Interpersonal learning style – you learn best by working with others, discussing things
* Logistical learning style – you like to think things through in an organized fashion
* Musical learning style – You learn best when you hear rhyme and rhythm in things
* Naturalist learning style – you learn best when what you are learning relates to the world you live in
I will be talking more about each of these learning styles in later blogposts and in an upcoming book, meanwhile try and decide which of these are your own preferred learning style.
For instance, when giving directions I always tell people about what they will SEE on the route (visual learning style) whereas my husband tells them the NAMES of the roads (verbal learning style).
Have fun with this and wait for more information on how you can determine your – and your child’s – preferred learning style and why it is important.
